| There are internet users, internet addicts, and internet citizens. Seriously, I've seen and felt my status slowly progressing from my irc.chatx.net (Davao) and eu.undernet.org (Dumaguete) days, the F213 semesters, to now, which is, to mix metaphors, a whole-nother ballpark.Ok, I may have a lot of time on my hands when my job isn't boring me to death, but I've seen this one coming. Just like a storm cloud on the horizon, it has been slowly creeping its way into my life. Symptoms? Well, my FS logins do not go past the 12 hour range. I haven't been blogging this regularly since January of 2005. And I am fully aware of internet blackouts, as evidenced by our call bombardment to PLDT MyDSL hotline. Sure, I've been active in forums and stalked sites regularly before, but believe me when I say its different now.So what if I'm a Netizen?! So what if I spend most of my waking hours in front of the CRT? (Yes, I haven't been introduced to the liquid crystal world, YET.) What's wrong with awareness? I want to bring a couple of things around the net that has recently caught my attention.I have always preferred Firefox over IE. Chalk, este, code it all down to trauma with xHTML and the a.link-border: none. Hahaha. I've posted Download Firefox on my Friendster for about a year and have downloaded it countless times in cafes I've been in who are still stuck on the Windows bundled browser. Why? Well, let me put it this way, A had a priest friend who was hooked on Linux. And she asked him why it was so. And his interesting take on the subject was... Because what does Christ teach us? To share. Christianity need not be archaic and lost in this new technological world. So, Linux, is in fact Christian. And Firefox too! I may not be a Red Hat user, or to the more hardcore, Ubuntu, but I believe in free software. WWJD right?! And its convenient and, for lack of a better word or two, NOT CRAPPY. I have been known to be a pirate, I mixed tapes for friends in highschool, and I was hooked on DVDs (translation: Muslim) during those times when I was, to continue the scurvy metaphor, marooned on the island of Dumaguete and had no internet connection. The ONE Campaign! Now this, I'm really passionate about. Not Oprah-level passionate, but I believe in it. Wayyyy back in 2005, when I was in Ateneo and ballers were so popular, I met one who was oh-so-misled. To make the long story short, I was seated next to her and she was wearing the conspicuous white band. So, I raised my hand, making her see mine and said...Galing noh? Dili ko makatuo na karon lang ta naka isip ani.And she gave me a blank stare and said, Ha?!I explained, The One Campaign bah. To make my point even more obvious, I pointed at her white baller. And she said, O! Bagay kaayo sa akong uniform ai...I turned away to successfully manage my mortification at her brainlessness. Moving on...This one is really dear to me. TWLOHA, or To Write Love On Her Arms touched a cord deep inside me in late 2006. And because I was so lost during that year, this helped me cope in more ways than one. To see your own personal story played out in someone else's life can be eye-opening, and though that story might vary in details, and circumstances, that link can make you see the light. Turning to music for relief and knowing your saviors/favorite bands endorse and believe in the same movement. Rescue, across oceans, is indeed possible. To lighten things up, and to end this dreary, excruciatingly long entry, here's something new...7 Wonders Of The World!Ok, this one is pretty self explanatory. This is not a bout of patriotism. I want these preserved so I can visit them later. Hahahaha. I've been to Bohol. Mount Mayon, I have yet to see, but I'm kinda sad why Mount Apo isn't nominated. But what the heck. I nominated Mount Olympus and Mount Ararat for obvious reasons. Isn't it? Oh, it isn't. Well, they have ties in beliefs, like Greek Mythology and Christianity.Christianity?!Mount Ararat is supposedly where Noah's Ark landed, or docked, or run out of gas, whatever. And Machu Pichu, well, because I like lost settlements. Like Roanoke and El Dorado. Nerd mode! So sue me if I paid attention in History class. Or read. Hahahaha.Would it be so bad to believe in something? |
